About EYFDM and Forum

What is the EYFDM and the EYFDM Forum?

The European Young Family Doctors’ Movement (formerly Vasco da Gama Movement – VDGM) is the network for early career Family Doctors of the European Regional Branch of the World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA). Early career Family Doctors are defined as those in training for Family Medicine and in the first five years after qualification as a family doctor.

The EYFDM Forum is the meeting place for young and future family doctors (= general practitioners) across Europe. One of the EYFDM national member organisations hosts a yearly event to share ideas, meet new people and learn about different topics in family medicine.

About Estonia

Estonia is a small country located in Eastern Europe, also known as the singing country — every 5 years, more than 25 000 singers and 70 000 spectators gather on the Tallinn Song Festival grounds to celebrate our freedom with the grand Song Festival. This tradition started in 1869 and has been upheld through many generations. Our small country is also known for its beautiful, untouched nature — our bogs are breathtaking, and the forest covers almost 50% of our land.

Estonia is the first country to function as a digital service. Our citizens and e-residents can get things done fast and efficiently. A number of world-renowned technology companies were born in Estonia, and the nation boasts more thriving start-up companies per capita than anywhere else in Europe. From doing taxes to creating a company in 15 minutes on your smart device and offering e-residency, Estonia is known for its giant leap in providing digital services. Estonia is considered one of the most advanced digital societies.

Over half of Estonian territory is forested.

No point in Estonia is more than 10 kilometres from a bog.

Estonia has one of the lowest population densities in Europe.

More than one-fifth of Estonian farmland is certified organic.

There are 2,317 islands in Estonia.

In Estonia, 99% of public services are available online 24 hours a day.

Wildlife preserves comprise 23% of Estonia.

Our air is the second-cleanest in Europe.

Estonia was the first country in the world to offer e-residency.
